Amelia Earhart and Harriet Tubman

One difference I noticed between Amelia Earhart and Harriet Tubman was that Amelia was the first woman to fly across the Atlantic and Harriet was the conductor of the underground railroad. In the biography I read about Amelia Earhart, it said,"Still, her life will never be the same. The first woman to cross the Atlantic made headlines around the world. Reading this quote shows me that Amelia Earhart tried her hardest in order to be successful, to be the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. Her fight was a success and for that she was able to be the first of many woman to fly across the Atlantic. In the biography I read about Harriet Tubman, it said, "She is made official "conductor" of the underground railroad and gets to know all the routes." This shows me that after helping so many slaves escape to freedom, Harriet was rewarded by becoming a conductor. She learned routes and she could be trusted, so from than on she was the conductor of the underground railroad.

One similarity I noticed between Amelia Earhart and Harriet Tubman was that both stuck up for what they believe in. In the biography I read about Amelia Earhart, it said, "She showed everyone that woman didn't have to live with limits. She showed people anyone can fly. She changed the world. She was a legend." This shows me that Amelia Earhart stood up for woman's rights because men and women deserve to be treated equally. Amelia Earhart stood up for what she believed in by proving she can do the impossible. Flying. In the biography I read about Harriet Tubman, it said, " In 1850, Harriet helps her first slaves escape slavery to the North." This shows me that Harriet Tubman stood up for ending slavery because everyone deserves to live life the way they want. Harriet stood up for what she believed in by helping slaves escape from slavery, so they can have what everyone else does. Freedom.

Harriet Tubman

The first attribute that makes Harriet Tubman courageous is facing suffering with dignity and faith. In the text it says, "Harriet Tubman was whipped and beat during work as a slave." This quote means that Harriet Tubman got abused by her slave owner. Harriet was abused when she was a slave, she got whipped and beat up for reasons I do not know. Tubman is very brave because she found something to depend on while she was being abused. She had something to hold on that made her not want to do stuff to herself. Freedom is what Harriet had to hold onto and she got it.

Second attribute that makes Harriet Tubman courageous is she stands up for what is right.
For instance, in the the text it says, "In 1850, Harriet Tubman helps her first slaves escape to the North." This quote shows that Harriet Tubman is courageous because she stands up for what is right, which is to end slavery. She helps slaves escape from the abuse and brutal work assigned to them by their owner. She helped them become free which was a big risk because if you helped them you would be against the law. She is brave and courageous.

Amelia Earhart

Amelia Earhart is courageous because she had the courage to stay on course. ( Never give up)
For example, in the text you can see it says, " with her parents help, Amelia took piloting lessons and saved money to buy an airplane. Before long, the young woman was flying air shows herself. In this quote, we see that Amelia Earhart has courage because she didn't just say "Mom can you buy me an airplane, so I can fly." No, Amelia Earhart did have some help from her parents, but she saved her own money and bought her own plane. Also she went out and got to take some piloting lessons, so she knows what she is doing. Amelia Earhart was courageous because she never gave up on her dream to fly.
Also Amelia Earhart is courageous because she had the courage to take a hit.
For instance, the text says," Only one pilot, a man, had ever flown around the world, several years before. But he had not followed the equator, the longest and most difficult route. This was the route Amelia would fly." This quote shows that Amelia Earhart is willing to sacrifice everything in order to show people that women can do what men can do, so she can be the first woman to fly around the world. Amelia is courageous because she is brave enough to fly around the world taking the longest and most difficult route. The equator. Amelia Earhart is courageous because she does the unthinkable.

" Never interrupt someone doing what you said couldn't be done." - Amelia Earhart

" The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity. The fears are paper tigers. You can do anything you decide to do. You can act to change and control your life; and the procedure, the process is its own reward." - Amelia Earhart

" Woman who can create her own job is the woman who will win fame and fortune." - Amelia Earhart.

A sport is not LIFE !

" Life is not a spectator sport. If you're going to spend your whole life in the
grandstand just watching what goes on, in my opinion you're wasting your life. "

The quote is saying that life is not just something you can ignore because if you just ignore than what's the point of living life to the fullest. This quote speaks to me because it makes me not want to miss out on anything because if I do than I missed an important part of life. Once you have missed one part of life than you have lost a million more pieces to it. I can relate to what this quote is saying because I don't believe that life is just a show or game that we just watch, life is time when we can travel the world and try new things and we can't do that if we are just watching it as if we watching a basketball game or some kind of reality TV show like Looney Tunes. I agree with what this quote says because it speaks the truth life in not a spectator sport, it's so much more.

Fault in Our Stars by: John Green

The main characters in the book The Fault in Our Stars by: John Green are Hazel Grace Lancaster, Augustus Waters, Isaac, and Peter Van Houten. Hazel is a 16 year old girl who was diagnosed with IV thyroid cancer when she 13 years old. Hazel meets Augustus and Isaac at a cancer support group, where they become great friends. Hazel and Augustus read a book called An Imperial Affliction by: Peter Van Houten, so Augustus gets plane tickets for him and Hazel to go visit Peter Van Houten in Amsterdam. Augustus and Hazel soon fall in love with each other while in Amsterdam. After the trip to Amsterdam something bad happens. If you want to find out what bad thing happened than read the book.
While reading this book I found the moral of it very interesting because the moral is " There are some situations we cannot escape. We have no power over the situation itself, but we do have the power to decide how we respond to it." I really like this Moral because it shows how the author thinks and what the author wants us to learn from the book he has written.

Plot Diagram ( independent Reading Book )

I am in the exposition part of book because right now the book is introducing and talking about the main and supportive characters. In my book it is telling me about the setting, and how Bella one of the main characters feels about her move to Forks where she is now living with her dad Charlie. The main characters in my book are Bella, Edward, and Jacob. The supporting characters are Rosalie, Esme, Emmet, Jasper, Alice, and Carlisle. So far in the book Bella has been introduced to Edward, but they didn't really get off at a good start. They didn't get off at a good start because when she walked into the classroom he moved away from her making her feel that she did something wrong, but what she doesn't know yet is that Edward is actually a vampire. I can't wait to see what happens!

Conflict

One type of conflict I see is Man vs Self because in the book one of the main characters named Angela who always questions herself all the time about her friends and how they might be splitting apart since they are their second year of high school. For example, in one scene in my book Angela in heard thinks about how Maddie and Zoe are in the same homeroom as each other, but she's not, so now Angela thinks they are going to split up.
Another type of conflict I see in my book is Man vs Man because in one scene in the book Maddie and Zoe have huge argument about how Maddie is spending to much time with this really mean girl Jana who doesn't like Zoe or Angela. Also in another scene in the book Maddie gets in a huge fight with Jana because Maddie made a joke and Jana got mad, so she made Maddie go to this party, which made her late to her lans with Zoe and Angela, so they got really mad and started to fight with Maddie.

Fearless 1 by: Francine Pascal

My main character's name is Gaia. Gaia is seventeen she lives with her father's friend George Niven and his wife Ella in Greenwich village. She is blonde not yellow blonde but blonde enough to be in the blonde category. Gaia is a black belt in Kung Fu and is trained in Karate, judo, jujitsu, and muay thai which is basically kick boxing. She is not afraid of anything she is fearless. She can break codes in 4 different languages, climb mountains, and wrestle, also she can throw a 175-pound man over her shoulders.
I predict that during the climax my character Gaia won't be fearless anymore because so far from what I have read she doesn't want to be fearless and the person that she is. I think this because since she isn't fearless that maybe it will turn and she will finally be scared of something. Gaia isn't afraid of anything because she is fast, strong, and knows a lot, so I think that during the climax that all of that might be taken away from her and she might be scared, weak, and might not know much.

What is direct and indirect characterization, and how do authors develop life-like characters in literary text?

Characterization is when the author gives or tell you how the character is by the way they dress, speak, or by their actions. The two types of characterization are direct and indirect. Direct characterization is when the author tells the readers directly that the character is brave, shy, or smart. Indirect characterization is when the author uses descriptive words or details to describe the character. When the author uses details to describe the character without giving to much away of how the character is. Authors develop life-like characters in literary text by using these two kinds of characterization direct and indirect. Using these types of characterization to make real life characters that star in books. By using these you can make a character come to life by the describing or telling how the character is.

What is a plot diagram, and how can it help us predict the outcomes of a story?

A plot diagram helps us by showing us how the story is setup by using exposition, rising action, climax, and resolution. Exposition is the beginning of the story.  Rising action is when all the events lead up to the climax. Once the story leads up to the climax which is when the turning point of the story happens after comes the resolution. The resolution is when the story comes to a reasonable action ( ending ). The plot diagram gives you an idea of how they are going to tell the story as you are reading.
This purpose of a plot diagram is to show us a visual of the story.  If you were to read the book Divergent the exposition would be when they talk about Tris, her family, and their fraction. The rising action would be when they talk about the aptitude test and choosing ceremony. When they talk about the fight between Dauntless, Erudite, and Abnegation that would be the climax. After when Tris, Four, and Caleb leave and escape to the city that is abounded that would be the resolution (reasonable action ).
This shows that a plot diagram helps us in many different ways because by using the plot diagram I have an idea of what the climax of my book would be.  I think the climax of the book I am reading now, which is the Jellicoe Road by: Melina Marchetta is going to be when the main character a girl named Taylor Markham is going to find the answer of to why she is having the same dream and why every time the dream ends with the words "It's Time!" A plot diagram is really helpful like when you want to write a short summary of your book just use the notes of your plot diagram. It's just that easy!

About the author

Hey! My name is Amelia. I'm 11 years old and I live with my two moms.  I was born at McNeal hospital. My hobbies are reading, listening to music, and spending time with my family. I love to hang out with all my cousins. One thing I like to do with my cousins is go to park and play football, soccer, and softball.
Last family reunion I had with my family we went to Woodhaven a campsite we go to every special holiday. This year we went to the park there and had a cookout, but then it started to thunderstorm while we were playing softball so instead of stop playing. We just kept playing throughout the whole storm no matter how much we got wet. Relatives were slipping in mud and grass, when my uncle was running to first base he slipped and went sliding to a tree that was at least 4 to 5 feet away. By the time we were done we were soaked.
My favorite genre of books to read are distopian books, mystery books, and fiction books.
The books I've read over the summer that I was really interested in was the Divergent series. I also enjoyed reading the books The Fault in Our Stars and Heaven is for real.  The book I'm currently reading is The Thief Lord by: Cornelia Funke. This book is about two boys name Prosper and Bo who run away from they're aunt and uncle. Prosper and Bo travel to Venice, Italy and while they're there they meet a boy who calls himself the Thief Lord. Venice, Italy is a magical place with many secrets and Prosper and Bo have a lot to look out for.
